CIC, SACS dominate at 14-under

BANILAD TOWN CENTRE, Cebu City (14 August 2011, 1600H)Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion (CIC) and Saint Alphonsus Catholic School (SACS) continued to dominate in separate 14-under divisions in the 3rd BTC Cup after trouncing their assignments here today.

Both teams asserted their respective leads by shaming separate teams from PAREF Springdale School in this inter-school 3-on-3 basketball series presented by Thirsty? Juices & Shakes and Dimsum Break.

The boys of coach Frankie Lastimoso anchored their game on CIC striker Paul Go (in action at left last Aug. 13) who produced four points as they overwhelmed PAREF-Team A, 5-1.

Ian Renz Singculan (in action at right also on Aug. 13) made the day for SACS with three points in defeating Springdale’s Team B, 4-1, as his team contained the Titans’ shooter Jay Sainz, last year’s 12-under MVP finalist.

Meanwhile, San Isidro Parish School (SIPS) climbed up the second spot at 14-under Division A to gain better chances to earn a playoff berth after defeating Sotero B. Cabahug (SBC) Forum for Literacy, 8-4.

Janus Marc Capuyan led the campaign banging in five marks for the Isidorian Tamaraws, who rose up in standings after Springdale-B bowed to SACS before their game.

The Tamaraws at 16-under further earned wins when its Team A knocked off Cebu Bradford School (CBS), 7-3, then later St. Louis College – Cebu’s Bravo team, 9-6, after torrential rains interrupted the games this morning.

Their Team B also crushed St. Paul Learning Center (SPLC), 7-3, in this series backed by Nike Athletic Club and Robinson’s Supermarket.

Both Vince Bryan Cena (on defense at left against Ivan Dick Sebastian of CBS today) and Mark Joseph Laurante produced a total of seven points each in carrying the Isidorian Tamaraws to victory today against two of the teams in their division.

Jonathan Tanghal gave the needed exclamation point to deliver again for SIPS-B in overpowering SPLC in this tournament sponsored by Cherifer PGM 10-22 “Tangkad Sagad” Growth Vitamins of InterMed Philippines.

SACS also overtook Formation School & Kiddies Learning Center (FS-KLC) in team standings at 16-under Division C, taking the top slot and dropping FS-LKC to the second spot after winning their game, 7-5.

FS-KLC could have brought the game to overtime on two occasions but failed as its skipper Jay Mark Canasa failed in his attempt from beyond the arc at the buzzer and, as as he got fouled in the process, also missed his two free throws.

Meanwhile, BTC Cup organizers announced that 16-under games not played during the Habagat-driven rains will be played via shootout at 11:30AM on Saturday, Aug. 20.

They had the games of SLCC-B vs. SIPS-A and SACS-B vs. CCS-B played today as the teams were here to play both games, giving enough time for a series of shootout to make up for the missed games and complete the elimination round.

The BTC Cup continued on its third year with the support also of Optical Adult & Child, Holy Kettle Corn and Nature Spring.
