2010 MVPs lead teams as League opens

BANILAD TOWN CENTRE, Cebu City (05 August 2011)All the four BTC Cup Most Valuable Players (MVP) last year will lead their teams anew as the 3rd inter-school 3-on-3 basketball tournament opens here tomorrow, Aug. 6.

16-Under MVP Ogilvie Lorence dela Fuente will lead a new line-up as Cebu Cherish School (CCS) guns for the golden cup again after settling for 1st runner-up last year.

But the CCS quest will be challenged by their rivals at PAREF Springdale School as 2010 14-Under MVP Zach Elisha Go steps up in age level and leads a stronger team with two other BTC Cup veterans.

Not wanting to be outsmarted is the defending 16-under champion from the University of Southern Philippines (USP) Foundation that has fielded a new line-up.

Yet, they all may have to contend with the 2010 14-Under champions from Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu that will now play in the 16-under bracket.

The team coached by parent Alan Chuachoy, who recently graduated from The Biggest Loser TV series, will be led anew by MVP finalist Josef Gatchalian.

Meanwhile, San Isidro Parish School will bank again on 2010 12-Under MVP Joshua Riner Ramas in carrying their 14-under team for the title.

But it will be a difficult quest for the Isidorian Tamaraws as they will again face last year’s 12-under champion led by MVP finalist Joseph Jaime Sainz of Springdale.

In the 12-Under category, last year’s 10-Under MVP Giles Nathan Benedicto will lead the quest of the 12-Under defending champion Springdale with spitfire wingman Sean Quetevis again.

It will basically be an all-new line-up for the teams playing in the 10-under category this year.

The 3rd BTC Cup continues to enjoy the collaboration since 2009 of Thirsty Juices & Shakes, Dimsum Break and Nike Athletic Club, with Robinson’s Supermarket, Cherifer Growth Vitamins and Nature Spring since last year.

Joining the roll of sponsors this year are Optical Adult & Child, retailer of branded eye-wear like Oakley, Tag Heuer, Giordano and Levi’s, and Holy Kettle Corn.
