Tamaraws rule on 2nd day

BANILAD TOWN CENTRE, Cebu City (07 Aug. 2011)The Tamaraws of San Isidro Parish School (SIPS) ruled the second day of eliminations in the 3rd BTC Cup giving heart-breakings defeats to four separate teams here today.

The 16-under Team B players of coach Virgo Godinez capped the day by humiliating the Titans’ Team B of PAREF Springdale School, its apparent hope for a first title in the high school categories, 6-3.

Jonathan Tanghal produced four marks for the Tamaraws as his teammates limited to the nothing the Titans’ skipper Zach Elisha Go, last year’s 14-under MVP.

Their Team A also crushed Bright Academy, 7-1, with main gunner Vince Bryan Cena banging 4 by breaking the tough defense of the players from the sister company of the tournament key sponsor Thirsty.

Meanwhile, Joseph Riner Ramas asserted his prowess as 12-under MVP last year as he carried the Tamaraws’ 14-under team in a hairline win against the Blue Lions of Philippine Christian Gospel School (PCGS), 11-10, in overtime.

Producing 4 points with two in the extended period, including the winning shot, Ramas got an able help from Junrick Transmonte who contributed 4 in regulation, denying the better PCGS squad an edge in the tournament backed by Nike.

The 10-under squad of the Isidorian Tamaraws also outclassed PCGS, 6-2, with Victor Vargas and Andrew Man producing equally back to back marks for the school named after the farmers’ patron saint.

Scoring binge

In other developments, Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion (CIC) gained attention in the league as its 14-under and 12-under entries overwhelmed their assignments over the weekend.

The 12-under boys of coach Frankie Reyes Lastimoso simply massacred their Team B rivals from Saint Paul Learning Center (SPLC), 10-1, on Saturday and Center for International Education (CIE), 9-0, last Sunday.

The SPLC Paladins and CIE Lions just could not stop the scoring binge of Christopher Go and Zandyll Gomonit who have combined for 13 in those two games in this series stirred by Dimsum Break.

The CIC boys also drowned the Paladins at 14-under, 13-5, with Paul Go firing shots like a machine gun with 6 hits, plus 5 marks from Steven Clien Maga.

Also last Sunday, new entrant St. John of Kenty School outsmarted Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu, 9-8, in their 12-under clash among the games sponsored by Cherifer Growth Vitamings.

Guided by former Consolacion Mayor Camilo Go, also their school president, Joash Isoto scored 6 points, including the winning basket, breaking the hearts of the young Magis Eagles.

But the most exciting close-to-call see-saw game came from the battle between another new entrant Formation School and Kiddies Learning Center that eventually edged their opponents from neighboring PCGS, 6-5.

Street-smart Jose Arby Bacasmas threw a missile from beyond the arc in the last few seconds of the game, adding to a similar long-shot from Aike Lyster Estoquia and two drive-ins by Jay Mark Canasa.
